Target Information
TAF12 is involved in the control of transcription by RNA polymerase II. It participates in the basal transcription machinery, a collection of proteins that assemble with RNA polymerase II into complexes modulated by transactivator proteins binding to cis-regulatory elements near transcription start sites. These modulators may interact directly with the basal complex or act as bridging proteins linking transactivators to basal transcription factors. TAF12 is among the tightly associated TAF proteins within the TFIID complex and interacts directly with TBP and TAF2I, mediating the function of distinct transcriptional activators for various gene promoters and RNA polymerases.
