Target Information
Albumin is a soluble, monomeric protein that constitutes about half of the total blood serum protein. It functions mainly as a carrier for steroids, fatty acids, and thyroid hormones, and helps maintain extracellular fluid balance. Albumin is a globular, unglycosylated serum protein with a molecular weight of approximately 65,000. It is synthesized in the liver as preproalbumin, which undergoes cleavage to proalbumin and subsequently to mature albumin during secretion.
