Target Information

Podoplanin (PDPN, T1A, gp38, Aggrus) is a mucin-type 1 glycoprotein with a molecular weight of 40–43 kDa. It is expressed in various tumors and normal cells, particularly lymphatic epithelial cells and follicular dendritic cells. Podoplanin localizes in stromal cells of peripheral lymphoid tissue and thymic epithelial cells.

As a regulator of lymphatic endothelium, podoplanin likely contributes to maintaining the unique shape of podocytes. It serves as a ligand for CLEC-2, and its expression correlates with tumor invasiveness and metastatic potential. Podoplanin is directly involved in cell migration, metastasis formation, and tumor cell invasion.

Podoplanin expression can be induced through Src activation of Cas and has been detected on Th17 cells. Studies show its presence on a distinct population of CD4+ cells from human PBMC. Dysfunction of podoplanin has been linked to diseases such as lymphangioma and subglottic neoplasm. It is also proposed as a marker for lung injury due to its physiological role.
