Target Information
Follicle-Stimulating Hormone Receptor (FSHR) is expressed in ovary, uterus, and testis. ESTs have been isolated from testis libraries.
FSHR belongs to the G-protein Coupled Receptor (GPCR) family, characterized by seven membrane-spanning helices and existing in active and inactive forms. GPCRs participate in signal transduction via G-proteins and downstream effectors.
Regulation of GPCR activity has significant physiological and pharmacological implications, influencing drug development for mental health and allergy treatments such as Zyprexa (Eli Lilly) and Claritin (Schering-Plough).
