Target Information
Kinesins are a superfamily of microtubule-associated motor proteins involved in processes such as organelle transport and cell division. They possess a conserved motor domain (~350 amino acids) responsible for microtubule binding and ATP hydrolysis. KIFC2, a C-type kinesin, has its motor domain near the carboxyl-terminus and is similar to the KAR3 family involved in cell division. KIFC2 is expressed in axons and dendrites of the central and peripheral nervous system and plays a role in retrograde axonal transport.
