Target Information
Human Rad18 (hRad18) is a homologue of the S. pombe Rad18. In yeast, Rad6 and Rad18 play crucial roles in post-replication repair during gap-filling of the daughter strand when replicating damaged DNA. The Rad6–Rad18 complex is essential for lesion bypass, with Rad18 binding to damaged sites via its single-stranded DNA binding property. The human RAD18 gene, located on chromosome 3p24–25, encodes a 495 amino acid protein (~56 kDa) and is ubiquitously expressed in various tissues. Deletions in this region are frequently observed in lung, breast, ovary, and testis cancers.
