This antibody detects endogenous levels of total TIM17 protein.
Target Information
Translocation of nuclear-encoded preproteins into the mitochondrial matrix requires the coordinated action of the translocases Tom and Tim, located in the outer and inner mitochondrial membranes, respectively.
The Tom complex includes multiple subunits such as Tom70, Tom37, Tom22, Tom20, Tom7, Tom6, Tom5, and Tom40, which facilitate preprotein import into mitochondria.
The TIM complex imports nuclear-encoded mitochondrial preproteins and involves Tim17, Tim23, and Tim44 in equimolar ratios.
Tim17 exists as two isoforms, Tim17a and Tim17b, differing in their C-terminal sequences, and is ubiquitously expressed in fetal and adult tissues.
Tim17 and Tim23 form the structural components of the inner membrane channel, while Tim44 recruits the matrix Hsp70 to assist preprotein translocation.
