Target Information
TPCN2 is a nicotinic acid adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NAADP) receptor that may act as a major voltage-gated Ca²⁺ channel across the lysosomal membrane. It is involved in smooth muscle contraction and encodes a cation-selective ion channel with two repeats of six transmembrane domains. The protein localizes to lysosomal membranes and mediates NAADP-induced calcium release from lysosome-related stores. TPCN2 is expressed ubiquitously, with higher expression in liver and kidney. Variants in TPCN2 are associated with traits such as hair pigmentation and certain forms of autosomal recessive deafness.
