Rat anti-Dog CD8 antibody, clone YCATE55.9, was clustered as Canine CD8 in the First Canine Leukocyte Antigen Workshop (Cobbold et al. 1994).
Target Information
Cluster of differentiation 8 (CD8) is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin receptor family that plays an essential role in T cell signal transduction, differentiation, and activation.
CD8 is predominantly expressed on T cells as a disulfide-linked heterodimer of CD8α and CD8β, functioning as a co-receptor with T cell receptor (TCR) for MHC-I molecules.
It is also found as a homodimer of CD8α on subsets of T cells, NK cells, monocytes, and dendritic cells.
Engagement of MHC-I/peptide complexes by CD8 triggers Lck kinase recruitment, lymphokine production, and cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) activation, crucial for pathogen and tumor cell clearance.
Differentiation of naïve CD8⁺ T cells into CTLs is enhanced by IL-2, IL-12, and TGF-β1.
