Target Information

p19 is a member of the INK4 family of cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitors. This protein forms a stable complex with CDK4 or CDK6 to prevent activation of CDK kinases, functioning as a cell growth regulator controlling G1 progression. The transcript abundance oscillates in a cell-cycle dependent manner, with lowest expression at mid G1 and maximal expression during S phase. This protein’s negative regulation of the cell cycle contributes to repression of neuronal proliferation and spermatogenesis.
