Target Information
The C/EBP (CCAAT/enhancer binding protein) family of transcription factors—alpha, beta, delta, and epsilon—are widely expressed proteins found in various tissues. These domains contain an evolutionarily conserved five-amino-acid motif (the regulatory domain motif RDM) that conforms to the consensus sequence (I/V/L)KXEP.
C/EBP transcription factors play major roles in metabolic regulation in liver and fat cells and act in cascades aiding adipose cell development.
Three C/EBP beta isoforms (LAP*, LAP, and LIP) arise from different translation initiation sites and display distinct functions in gene regulation.
Neurologically, C/EBPs are implicated in nerve growth factor mediation, synaptic plasticity modulation, and inflammatory response regulation in Alzheimer’s disease.
