Target Information
LC3B (Autophagy Marker Light Chain 3B, MAP1A/MAP1B LC3 B) in humans is encoded by the gene MAP1LC3B. LC3B is associated with microtubule assembly and plays an important role in neurogenesis. It is a key protein involved in autophagy — the process of bulk degradation of cytoplasmic components.
During autophagy, LC3 isoforms undergo post-translational modifications leading to the formation of autophagosomes that fuse with lysosomes for degradation. LC3B mediates interactions between microtubules and cytoskeletal components, and may be involved in cancer, aging, metabolic, neurodegenerative, and cardiovascular/pulmonary disorders.
