POU4F3는 POU-domain 전사인자 패밀리에 속하는 단백질을 암호화하며, 세포 정체성 조절에 중요한 역할을 합니다. 이 단백질은 망막에서 발현되어 시각계 뉴런 일부의 정체성 유지에 관여할 수 있습니다. 이 유전자의 결함은 비증후성 감각신경성 난청(autosomal dominant type 15)의 원인이 됩니다.
