Target Information
The cathepsin family of proteolytic enzymes includes several classes of proteases.
- Cysteine protease class: Cathepsins B, L, H, K, S, and O
- Aspartyl protease class: Cathepsins D and E
- Serine protease class: Cathepsin G
Most cathepsins are lysosomal and participate in cellular events such as peptide biosynthesis and protein degradation.
The propeptide region of cathepsin H is highly homologous to other cathepsins and is believed to play a role in cysteine protease processing.
Cathepsin H may be involved in pathological conditions including neurodegenerative disorders and cancer.
