Target Information
N-cadherin is a 140 kDa transmembrane protein mediating calcium-dependent intercellular adhesion. It plays a critical role in morphogenetic movements during development and regulates cell surface adhesion via homotypic interactions. Its function depends on association with the actin cytoskeleton, mediated by interactions between the C-terminal region of N-cadherin and cytoplasmic catenins. This association is regulated by phosphorylation and dephosphorylation of beta-catenin. N-cadherin is a calcium-dependent glycoprotein composed of five extracellular cadherin repeats, a transmembrane region, and a conserved cytoplasmic tail. It is essential during gastrulation and for establishing left-right asymmetry.
