Target Information
DEAD box proteins, characterized by the conserved motif Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD), are putative RNA helicases. They are involved in various cellular processes that alter RNA secondary structure, including translation initiation, nuclear and mitochondrial splicing, and ribosome and spliceosome assembly. Some family members are associated with embryogenesis, spermatogenesis, and cellular growth and division.
This gene encodes a DEAD box protein, a human homologue of yeast SKI2, and may contribute to antiviral activity by blocking translation of poly(A)-deficient mRNAs. It is located in the class III region of the major histocompatibility complex.
