RAX2 유전자는 눈 발달에 관여하는 홈도메인 단백질을 암호화합니다. 이 유전자의 돌연변이는 노화 관련 황반변성(type 6)을 유발할 수 있으며, 이는 망막 색소 상피 아래 및 Bruch 막 내 단백질과 지질 축적을 초래합니다. 또한 이 유전자의 결함은 cone-rod dystrophy type 11을 유발할 수 있으며, 이는 색각과 시력의 상실을 초래한 후 야맹증 및 주변 시야 손실로 진행됩니다.
