NUCB2는 칼슘 결합 단백질로, 주로 신경세포에서 발현되는 성장 억제 단백질인 Necdin과 결합할 수 있는 EF-hand 모티프를 포함합니다. NUCB2는 분비 단백질로서 Nesfatin-1, Nesfatin-2, Nesfatin-3 세 가지 주요 펩타이드로 절단됩니다. 그중 Nesfatin-1은 렙틴 독립적으로 식욕 억제 효과를 나타내며, NUCB2/Nesfatin-1은 에너지 항상성과 신경내분비 기능에 관여하는 것으로 알려져 있습니다.
