Target Information
Melanoma-associated antigen (MAGE) family proteins are silent in normal tissues except for male germ cells and, in some cases, placenta. These antigens are tumor-specific, expressed in various tumor cell types, and are of interest for antitumor immunotherapy. MAGE genes encode tumor antigens recognized by cytolytic T lymphocytes in human melanoma. Although the exact function of MAGE proteins is unknown, they may play roles in embryonal development, tumor transformation, and tumor progression.
