Target Information
Thyroxine-binding globulin (TBG), transthyretin, and albumin are major proteins responsible for carrying thyroid hormones thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3) in the bloodstream.
This gene encodes TBG, the major thyroid hormone transport protein in serum. It belongs to the serpin family but lacks inhibitory function.
Mutations in this gene result in TBG deficiency, which can be partial, complete, or excessive depending on serum TBG levels.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified, but their full-length sequences are not yet determined.
