Target Information
Variant histone H2A that replaces conventional H2A in a subset of nucleosomes, repressing transcription. Nucleosomes compact DNA into chromatin, regulating accessibility for transcription, replication, and repair. Histones play a central role in chromosomal stability and transcriptional regulation. DNA accessibility is controlled by post-translational modifications (the histone code) and nucleosome remodeling. Macro H2A.2 may be involved in stable X chromosome inactivation.
