Target Information
The DCTN3 gene encodes the smallest subunit of dynactin, a macromolecular complex composed of 10 subunits (22–150 kDa). Dynactin interacts with microtubules and cytoplasmic dynein, playing roles in:
- ER-to-Golgi transport
- Lysosome and endosome movement
- Spindle formation and cytokinesis
- Chromosome movement and nuclear positioning
- Axonogenesis
This subunit exists only as part of the dynactin complex, is primarily alpha-helical, and binds directly to the largest subunit (p150). Alternative splicing produces two transcript variants.
