TAS2R9은 G-protein-coupled receptor 초가족에 속하는 미각 수용체 후보 단백질로, 혀와 입천장 상피의 미각 수용 세포에서 발현됩니다. 이 단백질들은 유전체 내에서 클러스터 형태로 존재하며, 쓴맛 인식과 관련된 유전적 위치와 연결되어 있습니다. 기능적 발현 연구에서 쓴맛 자극에 반응하며, 인간 12번 염색체 p13 위치의 미각 수용체 유전자 클러스터에 속합니다. Gustducin-coupled receptor로서 구강 및 위장관의 쓴맛 인식에 관여하고, PLCB2 및 TRPM5 경로를 통해 신호를 전달합니다. 혀와 입천장 상피의 gustducin-양성 세포에서 특이적으로 발현됩니다.
