Target Information
GDP dissociation inhibitors (GDIs) regulate the GDP-GTP exchange reaction of the Rab family, small GTP-binding proteins of the Ras superfamily, which are involved in vesicular trafficking between cellular organelles. GDIs slow the rate of GDP dissociation from Rab proteins and facilitate GDP release from membrane-bound Rabs. GDI1 is primarily expressed in neural and sensory tissues, and mutations in GDI1 have been associated with X-linked nonspecific mental retardation.
