Target Information
This intronless gene encodes a transcription factor that belongs to the high mobility group (HMG)-box family of DNA-binding proteins. The SRY protein functions as the testis-determining factor (TDF), initiating male sex determination. Mutations in this gene can cause XY females with gonadal dysgenesis (Swyer syndrome), while translocation of part of the Y chromosome containing this gene to the X chromosome results in XX male syndrome.
