Target Information
The 26S proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex with a highly ordered structure composed of two complexes: a 20S core and a 19S regulator.
- The 20S core is composed of four rings of 28 non-identical subunits (two rings of seven alpha subunits and two rings of seven beta subunits).
- The 19S regulator consists of a base (six ATPase subunits and two non-ATPase subunits) and a lid (up to ten non-ATPase subunits).
Proteasomes are abundant in eukaryotic cells and cleave peptides in an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent, non-lysosomal process.
The immunoproteasome plays a key role in processing class I MHC peptides.
This gene encodes a protein that inhibits proteasome activation by the 11S and 19S regulators. Alternative transcript variants have been identified.
