Target Information
The 26S proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex composed of two major subcomplexes: a 20S core and a 19S regulator.
- The 20S core consists of four rings of 28 non-identical subunits: two rings of seven alpha subunits and two rings of seven beta subunits.
- The 19S regulator includes a base (with six ATPase and two non-ATPase subunits) and a lid (with up to ten non-ATPase subunits).
Proteasomes are abundant in eukaryotic cells and cleave peptides through an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent, non-lysosomal pathway. The immunoproteasome variant plays a key role in processing class I MHC peptides.
The PSMD5 gene encodes a non-ATPase subunit of the 19S regulator base.
