Target Information
Adaptins are essential components of clathrin-coated vesicles that transport ligand–receptor complexes from the plasma membrane or the trans-Golgi network to lysosomes. The adaptin family includes alpha-, beta-, beta′-, and gamma-adaptins. Together with medium and small subunits, adaptins form heterotetrameric adaptor complexes that promote the formation of clathrin-coated pits and vesicles.
The gamma-adaptin protein belongs to the adaptor complexes large subunits family. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
