Target Information
The COL1A1 gene encodes the pro-alpha1 chain of type I collagen, a fibril-forming collagen found in most connective tissues, including bone, cornea, dermis, and tendon.
Mutations in COL1A1 are associated with osteogenesis imperfecta (types I–IV), Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (types VIIA and Classical), Caffey Disease, and idiopathic osteoporosis.
Reciprocal translocations between chromosomes 17 and 22 involving COL1A1 and PDGFB genes are linked to dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans due to unregulated growth factor expression.
Two transcripts have been identified due to alternate polyadenylation signals.
