ANKRD27 may function as a guanine exchange factor (GEF) for Rab21, Rab32, and Rab38, regulating endosome dynamics (PubMed:16525121, PubMed:18477474).
It may control VAMP7 participation in membrane fusion events by inhibiting SNARE complex formation (PubMed:23104059).
Involved in melanosomal distribution of TYRP1 in melanocytes, neurite growth regulation, and Golgi sorting of VAMP7 (PubMed:22705394, PubMed:19745841).
Also regulates GLUT1 endosome-to-plasma membrane trafficking via VPS29 association (PubMed:24856514).
Regulates trafficking of melanogenic enzymes TYR, TYRP1, and DCT/TYRP2 to melanosomes.
