Target Information
Myc is a proto-oncogene encoding a nuclear phosphoprotein involved in cell cycle progression, apoptosis, and cellular transformation. The MYC protein forms a heterodimer with the transcription factor MAX, binding to the E-box DNA consensus sequence to regulate transcription of target genes. Gene amplification is frequently observed in various human cancers, and translocations involving MYC are associated with Burkitt lymphoma and multiple myeloma. Translation may initiate from an upstream non-AUG (CUG) or downstream AUG start site, producing two isoforms with distinct N-termini.
