Product Specific Information
This product is preservative-free. It is recommended to add sodium azide to avoid contamination (final concentration 0.05%–0.1%).
This antibody has specificity for Human CSEN/calsenilin/KCNIP3.
Target Information
Voltage-gated potassium (Kv) channels are key components of potassium currents in the heart and central nervous system. In the heart, Kv4 channels are involved in the repolarization phase of the action potential, while in the brain they prevent reverse-propagation of action potentials.
KChIPs (Kv channel interacting proteins) are calcium-binding proteins that associate with Kv4 channels and modulate their function. There are three known KChIPs:
- KChIP1: Expressed in the brain
- KChIP2: Expressed in brain, heart, and lung (isoforms a, b, c)
- KChIP3 (calsenilin/DREAM): Expressed in brain and testis
KChIP3 not only modulates Kv4 currents but also binds to regulatory DRE elements, repressing transcription from the c-fos gene. It is the first known calcium-binding protein functioning as a DNA-binding transcriptional regulator. KChIP3 is also associated with presenilins and implicated in beta-amyloid formation.
