Target Information

PAPD5 is a terminal nucleotidyltransferase that preferentially transfers ATP and GTP to RNA 3′ poly(A) tails, creating heterogeneous tails that stabilize mRNAs by protecting them from deadenylation. It functions as a catalytic subunit of a TRAMP-like complex with poly(A) RNA polymerase activity involved in post-transcriptional quality control. PAPD5-mediated short oligo(A) polyadenylation is required for exosome-mediated RNA degradation. It also participates in cytoplasmic polyadenylation of mRNAs involved in carbohydrate metabolism (e.g., SLC2A1/GLUT1) and in histone mRNA degradation via terminal uridylation. Additionally, it may contribute to sister chromatid cohesion and mediates 3′ adenylation of microRNA MIR21 and H/ACA box snoRNAs, influencing their stability and maturation.
