Peroxiredoxin (Prx)은 세포 증식, 분화 및 세포사와 관련된 퍼옥시다아제 계열 단백질로, 활성 시스테인 잔기를 포함한 약 50여 종의 단백질이 존재합니다. 포유류 Prx는 6가지 멤버로 구성되며, 일반적인 2-Cys, 비정형 2-Cys, 1-Cys Prx로 분류됩니다. Prx VI는 1-Cys Prx에 속하며, 나머지 2-Cys Prx는 thioredoxin, thioredoxin reductase, NADPH를 이용한 thioredoxin-dependent peroxidase (TPx) 활성을 가집니다. 포유류 Prx는 20–30 kDa 크기로, Prx I, II, VI는 세포질에, Prx III는 미토콘드리아에, Prx IV는 ER 및 분비계에, Prx V는 퍼옥시좀, 미토콘드리아, 세포질 등 복잡한 분포를 보입니다.
