Target Information
The PATZ1 gene encodes a protein containing an A-T hook DNA binding motif that interacts with other DNA-binding structures, playing an important role in chromatin remodeling and transcription regulation. The POZ domain mediates protein-protein interactions required for transcriptional repression, while zinc fingers comprise the DNA-binding domain. PATZ1 functions as a transcriptional repressor. In small round cell sarcoma, PATZ1 is fused to EWS by inversion of 22q, forming a chimeric gene (t(1;22)(p36.1;q12)) that combines the transactivation domain of EWS with the zinc finger domain of PATZ1. Four alternatively spliced transcript variants are known.
