Claudin-7 유전자는 claudin 계열에 속하는 막단백질을 암호화하며, tight junction strand의 구성 요소로 작용합니다. Tight junction은 상피세포 또는 내피세포 사이의 공간을 통한 용질 및 수분의 자유로운 이동을 차단하고, 세포 극성 유지 및 신호전달에 중요한 역할을 합니다. 이 유전자는 유방암, 난소암, 간세포암, 요로종양, 전립선암, 폐암, 두경부암, 갑상선암 등 다양한 암종에서 차등 발현이 보고되었습니다. 또한, 다양한 isoform을 암호화하는 alternative splicing 전사체가 존재합니다.
