HYOU1는 heat shock protein 70 계열에 속하며, 소포체 내 단백질 접힘 및 분비에 중요한 역할을 하는 것으로 알려져 있습니다. 단백질 발현 억제 시 세포사(apoptosis)가 촉진되어, 저산소 유도 세포 손상에 대한 세포 보호 기능을 수행하는 것으로 제안됩니다. 또한 유방암을 포함한 여러 종양에서 발현이 증가하며, 종양 침윤성과 관련이 있습니다. 쥐 모델에서는 소포체와 미토콘드리아 모두에 존재하는 것으로 알려져 있습니다.
