Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the TMEM16 family of predicted membrane proteins, also known as anoctamins. Mutations in this gene have been associated with autosomal dominant craniocervical dystonia. Cells with mutations show abnormalities in endoplasmic reticulum-dependent calcium signaling. Studies in rat show interaction with sodium-activated potassium channels, and gene deletion increases pain sensitivity. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
