Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the TMEM16 family of predicted membrane proteins, also known as anoctamins. Mutations in this gene have been associated with autosomal dominant craniocervical dystonia. Cells with these mutations show abnormalities in endoplasmic reticulum-dependent calcium signaling. Studies in rat indicate that the ortholog interacts with and modulates a sodium-activated potassium channel. Deletion of this gene increased pain sensitivity in rat models. Alternative splicing produces multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
