YAP은 공동활성인자(coactivator) 및 공동억제인자(corepressor)로 작용할 수 있으며, Hippo 신호전달 경로의 중요한 하위 조절 타깃입니다. Hippo 경로는 세포 증식 억제 및 세포사멸 촉진을 통해 기관 크기 조절과 종양 억제에 핵심적인 역할을 합니다. 또한 조직 장력, 3D 조직 형태, 세포 증식, 세포 사멸, 세포 이동에도 관여합니다. IRF5 유전자 변이는 coloboma를 유발할 수 있습니다.
