Target Information
CYP2C19 is a member of the cytochrome P450 superfamily of enzymes. These monooxygenases catalyze reactions involved in drug metabolism and synthesis of cholesterol, steroids, and other lipids. The protein localizes to the endoplasmic reticulum and metabolizes various xenobiotics, including mephenytoin, omeprazole, diazepam, and some barbiturates. Genetic polymorphisms result in variable metabolic capacity, classified as poor or extensive metabolizers.
