Target Information
Bnc1 is a 994 amino acid transcription factor specific for squamous epithelium and keratinocytes at early terminal differentiation stages. It is a zinc finger protein with three separated pairs of zinc fingers and a nuclear localization signal. Bnc1 shuttles between nucleus and cytoplasm depending on cell proliferation potential. Phosphorylation on Ser-537 and Ser-541 induces cytoplasmic localization. It is found in basal cell layers of epidermis, hair follicles, and germ cells of testis and ovary, with lower expression in thymus, spleen, mammary glands, placenta, brain, and heart. It plays a regulatory role in keratinocyte proliferation and rRNA transcription, and is involved in spermatozoa and oocyte differentiation.
