Target Information

RPC8 (POLR3H) is a DNA-dependent RNA polymerase that catalyzes transcription of DNA into RNA using ribonucleoside triphosphates as substrates. It is a peripheral component of RNA polymerase III, responsible for synthesizing small RNAs such as 5S rRNA and tRNAs.
This protein plays a crucial role in sensing and limiting infection by intracellular bacteria and DNA viruses, acting as both a nuclear and cytosolic DNA sensor involved in innate immune response. It detects non-self dsDNA and transcribes it into dsRNA, inducing type I interferon and NF-κB activation through the RIG-I pathway.
