Product Specific Information

This antibody recognizes Bcl-2, a 26 kDa intracellular proto-oncogene with anti-apoptotic effect.
It is expressed in the outer mitochondrial membrane, endoplasmic reticulum, and nuclear envelope.


Target Information

BCL-2 is a key regulator of apoptosis that can inhibit or promote cell death.
Members of the BCL-2 family form dimers to modulate apoptosis.

  • Bag1 forms a heterodimer with BCL-2, enhancing its anti-apoptotic effect.
  • Bax and Bak promote cytochrome c release, initiating apoptosis.

Constitutive expression of BCL-2, such as through translocation to the Ig heavy chain locus, is associated with follicular lymphoma.
In most follicular lymphomas, neoplastic germinal centers express high levels of BCL-2 alpha protein, whereas normal centers are negative.
Two transcript variants of BCL-2 differ in their C-terminal ends.
Overexpression of BCL-2 has been linked to B-cell lymphoma and prostate cancer.
