Background
This gene encodes a protein identified as an interacting corepressor of BCL6, a POZ/zinc finger transcription repressor required for germinal center formation and possibly influencing apoptosis. The BCOR protein selectively interacts with the POZ domain of BCL6 but not with other POZ proteins. Specific class I and II histone deacetylases (HDACs) have been shown to interact with BCOR, suggesting a link between these HDAC classes. Several transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified, and a pseudogene exists on chromosome Y. [RefSeq, Jun 2010]
