Background

This gene encodes a tumor suppressor protein that antagonizes the Wnt signaling pathway. It also participates in cell migration, adhesion, transcriptional activation, and apoptosis. Mutations in this gene cause familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP), an autosomal dominant pre-malignant disease that typically progresses to malignancy.
