Background

Protein tyrosine kinase 2 (PTK2) is a cytoplasmic protein tyrosine kinase concentrated in focal adhesions formed between cells and extracellular matrix components. It belongs to the FAK subfamily of protein tyrosine kinases and plays an essential role in cell growth and intracellular signaling pathways triggered by neural peptides or cell-matrix interactions. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene, with four full-length forms determined (RefSeq, Oct 2015).
