배경 설명

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the STAT family of transcription factors. In response to cytokines and growth factors, STAT family members are phosphorylated by receptor-associated kinases and form homo- or heterodimers that translocate to the nucleus, acting as transcription activators.
STAT6 plays a central role in IL-4 mediated biological responses and induces BCL2L1/BCL-X(L) expression, contributing to anti-apoptotic activity. Mouse knockout studies indicate its involvement in Th2 cell differentiation, surface marker expression, and immunoglobulin class switching.
Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [RefSeq, May 2010]
