Target Information
EIF4E (Eukaryotic Translation Initiation Factor 4E) participates in multiple cellular processes such as translational efficiency, splicing, mRNA stability, and RNA nuclear export. All eukaryotic mRNAs possess a 7-methylguanosine cap structure at the 5' end (m7GpppX). EIF4E directs ribosomes to this cap structure, functioning as a key component in translation initiation.
EIF4E is a 24-kD polypeptide found both freely and as part of the EIF4F complex. The EIF4F complex also includes EIF4A (50 kD, ATPase/RNA helicase) and EIF4G (220 kD). EIF4E serves as the rate-limiting factor in eukaryotic protein synthesis.
