Target Information

Guanylyl cyclases catalyze the production of cGMP from GTP and exist in soluble and membrane-bound forms. Membrane guanylyl cyclases (A–F) act as cell-surface receptors with extracellular ligand-binding, transmembrane, and intracellular kinase-like plus cyclase domains. GC-A and GC-B serve as receptors for atrial and brain natriuretic peptides (ANP and BNP). NPR1 is a membrane-bound guanylate cyclase acting as the receptor for both ANP and BNP. NPR3 encodes a related protein with truncated cytoplasmic domains.
